About the Physician

A different kind of doctor for the kind of chronic problems conventional medicine can't crack

Dr. Aaron Erez, DO, IFMCP, is a board-certified family medicine physician and Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner. He founded Erez Functional Medicine in June 2020 to offer patients a different kind of care: deep, root-cause investigation paired with the rigor of conventional medical training.

Dr. Erez earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center and completed his family medicine residency at the Samaritan Family Medicine Residency Program in Corvallis, Oregon, affiliated with Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.

He is licensed to practice medicine in California, Oregon, and North Carolina, and sees patients exclusively via secure HIPAA-compliant telehealth.

Dr. Erez specializes in chronic conditions where conventional medicine often falls short: autoimmune disease, chronic fatigue, gut dysfunction, hormonal imbalances, metabolic disorders, and unexplained symptoms that have persisted despite multiple specialist visits.

His approach combines comprehensive lab testing, detailed patient history, targeted nutrition and supplementation protocols, and lifestyle medicine to address what's driving symptoms — not just suppress them.

His clinical philosophy is shaped by 11+ years of patient care and ongoing continuing education through the Institute for Functional Medicine.

The Approach

Your Journey to Optimal Health

Here's what working with me actually looks like, from your first call through long-term care.

Two overlapping speech bubbles.

Deep Dive Consultation

First, we explore your health journey in its entirety. Unlike traditional healthcare's rushed appointments, we take the time to listen to your story, understanding the context and patterns that influence your health. We dig into your medical records, diet, lifestyle, stress levels, and past experiences to create a comprehensive health picture.

Detailed Investigation

Using the latest diagnostic tools and tests, we further our understanding of your health. This goes beyond basic check-ups in mainstream healthcare. We look for the root causes of your symptoms, rather than just treating the symptoms themselves. The tests provide a baseline of how your body is currently functioning.

Personalized Plan Creation

Based on our in-depth exploration, we create a tailored health plan for you, addressing the root causes we've identified. We focus on optimizing your health rather than just managing diseases. This personalized approach is often missing in traditional healthcare but is a central pillar in functional medicine.

Rocket ship launching upward.

Implementing Your Health Blueprint

We support you as you implement your health plan, making adjustments as necessary. This is a collaborative journey, where we work together to monitor progress and tweak the plan as needed. Your voice is valued and heard at each step.

Long-Term Wellness Partnership

Health is a long-term commitment, not a one-time fix. We form a partnership with you, adjusting your plan as your health evolves, and providing ongoing support to help you maintain and further improve your health over time.

Time You Can Actually Use

Initial consultations are 60–90 minutes. Follow-ups are 30–60 minutes. You won't get a 7-minute appointment here. The work happens in real conversations with real time to think.

Questions patients ask before booking

Yes. Dr. Erez is a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) — a fully licensed physician with the same prescribing authority and training scope as an MD. He completed a 3-year family medicine residency, is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, and is licensed in California, Oregon, and North Carolina. You can verify his credentials through the Medical Board of California, the Oregon Medical Board, the NC Medical Board, and the American Board of Family Medicine.

Conventional medicine is excellent at acute care, surgery, and managing diagnosed disease — and Dr. Erez uses that training every day. Functional medicine adds a different layer: a systematic process for identifying why a chronic problem is happening at the cellular, hormonal, and biochemical level. It uses comprehensive lab testing, detailed history-taking, and personalized protocols to address root causes rather than just suppress symptoms. Many functional medicine patients have already seen multiple specialists without resolution.

The Institute for Functional Medicine has partnered with Cleveland Clinic on published clinical research demonstrating outcomes in functional medicine care. Dr. Erez's protocols draw on peer-reviewed research, advanced lab diagnostics, and clinical experience. Functional medicine is not "alternative medicine" — it's a systems-based approach to applying conventional and emerging science to chronic disease.

We don't directly bill insurance. We provide a ready-to-submit Superbill that you can submit for potential out-of-network reimbursement. If you have PPO insurance, we use it to cover labs whenever possible, and we fight Prior Authorizations so you don't have to battle the system alone.

A superbill is a detailed invoice that includes the services provided, associated costs, and diagnostic codes. You submit this document to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, depending on your out-of-network coverage.

Dr. Erez specializes in chronic conditions and autoimmune diseases. Whether you're dealing with a specific diagnosis or seeking support for a general health concern, the easiest way to find out if he can help is a free 15-minute intro call.

Dr. Erez is licensed to see patients via telehealth in California, Oregon, and North Carolina.

It varies depending on the nature and severity of your condition. As a general guideline, expect to need 4-6 appointments initially. The exact number may be more or fewer based on individual factors.
